This switch activates the refrigerator light when the door is open.
It also prevents the dispenser from working if the door is open.
You can check the door switch by opening the door and pressing the switch manually. This should cause the unit’s interior lights to go off. If, however, they stay on, it likely means that you’re dealing with a faulty switch or wiring connection.

Why do fridges have light switches?
The reason the light comes on is the switch near the hinge side of the door. It's usually a spring-loaded 'button'. The light bulb puts out heat so you don't want it on all the time as it would make it harder to cool the inside of the fridge.
